Welcome to 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies
American history is a two-year course. Classes are fast paced and informative, in order to prepare students for high school. Lessons are aligned with the New York State Common Core Standards, with a focus on Literacy in History/Social Studies Standards. The course is rigorous and focuses on cultivating informed, creative and responsible twenty-first century learners.

The breadth and depth of content, required by New York State, spans several centuries of history and create a classroom environment in which every learning minute is valued. Although our main focus is the social studies curriculum, reading instruction, study skills, cooperative learning, organization and technological applications are equally valued. Classes and assignments will include teacher directed instruction, student centered instruction, essays, primary documents, technology-based projects, Web 2.0 applications, guided research, group projects, discussions and debate.

Education has embraced collection, by means of frequent assessment. For the teacher and student to measure growth, we will use several different assessment methods to track progress. Along with unit tests and projects, benchmark assessments may be cumulative and used for enrichment, intervention and lesson-planning.
